False Bay Tours and Pelagic Charters

From May to August every year we run Marine Tours in False Bay. This spectacular bay is right on our doorstep but very few Capetonians ever get to experience its magic. Our mission is to change this by offering these tours to locals at affordable rates. We have been doing this since 2007 and I can confidently report that all the previous tours were very successful. We set off from Simon’s Town very early because sunrise at this time of the year is the best time to be at Seal Island to observe the large Sharks and Cape Fur seals there. We spend about 2 hours at the island and will have hot drinks and muffins while watching the battle between seals and sharks unfold. The sunrise is spectacular and the shark action is awesome to see. Then we head for Cape Point where we spend about half an hour soaking up the magnificence and history of this amazing place. We head back along the western shore of the Bay hugging the coast and stopping here and there to observe caves, birdlife, historic landmarks, penguins and whatever we find. On previous tours we have had close encounters with dolphins, sunfish, whales and even otters. The tour takes between 4 and 5 hours and finishes back in Simon’s Town. We will only run these tours on days when the sea is settled with very little wind and definitely no rain. There are only about 4 or 5 suitable days per month so picking the right day is very important. Because of this we only schedule the tours 2 or 3 days before the time so if you would like to accompany us you need to be sure that we have you on our tours e-mail list so that we can contact you when conditions allow a tour to run.

From about November to about March every year we run Pelagic Charters when conditions are perfect.  Unfortunately perfect conditions for this type of diving and for the long boat ride occur only 2 or 3 times in the season so the trips are quite infrequent. But when they do happen they are simply spectacular and we have delivered some of the best pelagic diving experiences to our clients over the last 10 years.  It’s a full day (normally 0700 to 1400) out to the Tuna fishing grounds about 25 to 35 miles off Cape Point. Here one can snorkel and scuba with Blue and Mako sharks as well as tuna in warm blue water of the Aghulas current. These trips are run specifically for serious underwater photographers looking to get those stunning deep blue shark encounter images.
